The Company was created in 1999 when it was
spun off from Companhia Energética de
São Paulo (CESP),
and acquired at privatization auction by AES Corporation, one of the
world largest investors in electric energy, which operates 123 power
plants and
14 electricity distribution companies in 26 countries. With
a 30-year concession contract
beginning on December 20, 1999, the Company
is authorized to use public assets to produce
and commercialize energy
as an Independent Power Producer.
Since the end of 2003, AES Tietê has come under the control of
Brasiliana Energia S/A
(“Brasiliana”)– a holding
company made up of AES Corp and BNDES (Brazilian Economic
and Social
Development Bank) – which is also the controlling shareholder
of
Eletropaulo Metropolitana Eletricidade de São Paulo S.A.
(“AES Eletropaulo”) and
AES Uruguaiana Empreendimentos
S.A. (“AES Uruguaiana”).
With shares listed on the São Paulo Stock Exchange (“Bovespa”)
and Level 1 ADRs traded
over-the-counter in the U.S., AES Tietê ended
2005 with gross revenues of R$ 1.3 billion
and net income of R$ 556.1
million. |
