ISPA’s 23rd International Congress seeks innovative performances for possible international tours.
The Pitch Session is an open call by the International Society for the Performing Arts for professionals or groups in search of opportunities or support for their new projects in Theater, Dance, Music, multi-disciplinary, or multi-media arts.
In other words: the Pitch Session enables members of the ISPA—around
350 professionals from 35 countries—to learn about new works before their premiere or prior to extensive international touring. The aim is to help artists and presenters to develop partnerships that often enable international tours.
Applications to present a “pitch” must be sent in English for a prior selection. If selected, the applicant must produce a presentation, using audio-visual resources if possible, to be shown to congress attendees during a dedicated session.
This presentation may not include an actual performance. ISPA membership is not required to apply nor must applicants be registered for the Congress, but the presentation can only be given by someone who is connected to the project. Participation of at least one of the creating artists who are directly involved in the proposed performance is recommended. The theme of the Pitch Session is “New Works Now.” Among the projects that may apply are those that are still being developed and those that are expected to premiere in the next two years, as well as those have recently premiered locally but not yet toured internationally.

Applicants may send in their completed applications, resumes, a text describing the project, including technical and production requirements, and one CD or DVD containing previous work samples. A group of curators will be responsible for selecting nine to twelve projects, evaluating each applicant on the following criteria: creativity, artistic merit, and diversity.
The Pitch Session follows the model of an initiative originally developed by the World Television Festival, the Banff Film & Television Festival, in Canada, and which is now utilized at several festivals worldwide. Introduced to the program of each ISPA congress in 1999, the Pitch Session has been established as an effective instrument to initiate important and successful partnerships between institutions and talented artists in theater, music and dance.
