At its 60th anniversary, ISPA is one of the most influential entities in the performing arts world
Founded in 1948 in New York, The International Society for the Performing Arts [ISPA] has built a world-wide network based on mutual exchange, learning and the creation of opportunities for Theater, Music and Dance professionals.
There are over 350 ISPA members from over 35 countries. Among them are directors and managers of venues, orchestras, theater and dance companies, as well as artists, entrepreneurs and producers who play leading roles in cultural policy, programming, legal advice, planning, and management of cultural institutions.
They are individuals and organizations who are dedicated to communication, sharing of knowledge and international cooperation among performing arts professionals. ISPA promotes these values through programs, meetings and congresses, in addition to other events.
Every year, there are two major events: ISPA’s Annual New York Congress in January, which began in 1948, and the International Congress in June, created in 1986, which rotates to different cities around the globe. In 2009, São Paulo will host ISPA´s 29th International Congress, joining a list of other distinguished host cities including London, Munich, Glasgow, Los Angeles, Paris, Vienna, Toronto, Mexico City and Hong Kong.

During its congresses, ISPA grants four prestigious awards to people or institutions that have made a major contribution to the development of the performing arts:
