Brazil to host ISPA congress for the first time
The 23rd Congress of the International Society for the Performing Arts will be held in São Paulo, from June 10 through 13, 2009.
Approximately 350 professionals tied to the performing arts—theater, dance and music—from over 35 countries, will gather in São Paulo for an intense exchange of ideas and experiences, while innovative works and projects.
The Congress is comprised of roundtables, panel discussions, debates, and
exhibits by performing arts professionals, including directors of theaters and other cultural centers, artists’managers, directors, producers, authors, and artists, among others. In addition to promoting cultural exchange in the performing arts, ISPA also seeks to create relationships that can lead to new business opportunities around the world.
Graham Sheffield, artistic director at the Barbican Centre in London—the largest, and one of the most important, cultural centers in Europe—said the following of ISPA’s Congresses: “The opportunities for mutual exchange of ideas, problems and philosophies are too good to pass up”.
In addition to the Barbican Centre, ISPA’s 23rd International Congress in
São Paulo is expecting representatives from a variety of important international cultural institutions. Among them are the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lincoln Center of New York, the Amsterdam Concertgebow, the Arts Council Korea, the Adelaide Festival Centre of Australia, and Singapore’s Esplanade Center.
The Congress will also receive Brazilian and Latin American participants who are involved in organizations dedicated to the performing arts.
The organizing committee, led by São Paulo State’s Secretariat of Culture with the participation of various renowned partners across Brazil’s cultural landscape, is committed to producing an outstanding and diversified schedule of panels, seminars and discussions. They will also include a series of parallel cultural activities, to showcase Brazil’s exuberant artistic production to congress attendees.
